Homemade Oats Upma is a nutritious and easy-to-make breakfast. Combining quick-cooking oats with fresh vegetables, it’s ready in just 30 minutes and offers a healthy start to your day.
1 cup rolled oats ½ tsp oil (for roasting) ¼ cup finely chopped onions ¼ cup finely chopped carrots ¼ cup finely chopped French beans ¼ cup green peas 7/8 curry leaves 1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds 1 tsp chana dal 1 tsp urad dal (optional) 8 to 10 cashews or roasted peanuts ½ tsp finely chopped ginger 1 or 2 green chillies, chopped 1/4 cup water 2 tbsp oil Salt as required
Heat ½ tsp oil in a pan. Add 1 cup oats and roast on low heat until crisp.
In the same pan, heat 2 tbsp oil. Add mustard seeds and fry until they crackle. Add cumin seeds, chana dal, urad dal, and cashews. Fry until the chana dal browns.
Add chopped onions, ginger, green chillies, and curry leaves. Sauté until onions turn translucent.
Add carrots, beans, and peas. Stir and sauté for 2 minutes. Pour in 1.25 cups water. Simmer covered on medium heat until vegetables are almost cooked, about 8 minutes.
Add roasted oats and salt. Stir well, cover, and steam on low heat for 7 minutes.
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve with a squeeze of lemon or lime juice. Enjoy your homemade oats upma!
