Prepare Bengali Bhog Er Khichuri: A Festive Delight For Durga Puja

Durga Puja is a celebration of Maa Durga's victory over evil. Bhog Er Khichuri, made with Gobindobhog rice and moong daal, is a sacred offering during this festival. It symbolises purity, devotion, and tradition. 

Ingredients

150g Gobindobhog Rice 200g Moong Daal 4 Potatoes 1 small Cauliflower 2 Tomatoes 1.5 tbsp Ginger Paste 20g Cashew Nuts 20g Raisins ½ cup Coconut Slices ½ cup Coconut Paste ½ cup Green Peas 1 tsp Bengali Garam Masala 2 tbsp Ghee 8 tbsp Mustard Oil 

Step 1

Roast moong dal in a pan for 2-3 minutes on low flame until fragrant. 

Step 2

Fry cashew nuts, raisins, and coconut slices for 1 minute each, then strain. 

Step 3

Fry potatoes and cauliflower with turmeric and salt for 2 minutes each, then strain. 

Step 4

Temper oil with dried red chilli, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, cumin seeds, and bay leaves. 

Step 5

Add chopped tomatoes and ginger paste. Cook until tomatoes soften, then add fried ingredients. 

Step 6

Mix in coconut paste, green peas, roasted daal, and rice. Pour boiling water and cook for 20 minutes. 

Step 7

Once done, mix in ghee and garam masala, then let it rest for 15 minutes before serving.
