Potatoes To Coffee Beans: 7 Foods To Avoid In Blender

By Bornika Das

Cooking is an art and with the ample kitchen appliances available in the market, it makes cooking an ease activity. One such appliance is blender. With the help of a blender one can easily prepare purees, smoothies or paste. However, there are certain foods that must not go into the blender. Check them:

Potatoes

Although potatoes can be made in many ways, putting them in a blender can worsen it. Potatoes contain starch and they release more starch when exposed to high blade movement if the blender.

Frozen Foods

Avoid putting frozen foods like blueberries, strawberries, vegetables, etc. in the blender. This is because, when frozen these foods are quite strong which makes it difficult for the blade to break it.

Any Hot Thing

Do not put any hot things in a blender. Many people try to smoothen hot purees or gravies in their blender, but this will only create a lot of steam and pressure, putting it at the risk of exploding or spilling.

Strong Smell Food

Food like onions, ginger or garlic should not be put in a blender to make puree. These can leave a strong odour which can be difficult to remove.

Dough

Dough should not be kneaded in the blender. Although this may save time, it will not give you proper result. This is because the blades of the blender are not designed for it.

Ginger

For quick cooking, several people add ginger in a blender along with tomatoes. It can release long, stringy fibres that are not good for consumption.

Coffee Beans

Coffee beans do not grind best in the blender as it does not give uniformity. As coffee grind size impacts on its taste and flavour, it is best done in a burr grinder.
