Poha Chivda: Make This Diwali Favourite In 5 Easy Steps

Poha Chivda is a light, crispy snack made with flattened rice, nuts, and spices. It's a popular festive treat, especially during Diwali, offering a delightful mix of textures and flavours. Easy to prepare, it's a perfect balance of savoury, mildly sweet, and crunchy.

Ingredients

2 cups thin poha (flattened rice) 1/4 cup peanuts 1/4 cup roasted chana dal 2 tbsp oil 1 tsp mustard seeds 1/2 tsp cumin seeds

8-10 curry leaves 2-3 green chillies 1/4 tsp turmeric powder 1/2 tsp red chilli powder 1 tbsp sugar Salt 2 tbsp dried coconut slices 1/4 cup raisins

Step 1

Dry roast the poha in a large pan on low heat until they become crisp. Set aside.

Step 2

In the same pan, heat oil and fry the peanuts until golden. Remove and set aside.

Step 3

In the remaining oil, fry the roasted chana dal until crispy. Remove and set aside.

Step 4

Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds to the pan. Once they crackle, add curry leaves, green chillies, and dried coconut slices. Sauté briefly.

Step 5

Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, sugar, and salt. Stir well, then add the roasted poha, peanuts, chana dal, and raisins. Mix gently. Let the poha chivda cool completely before storing it in an airtight container.
