Tamarind rice, also known as Puliyodarai in South India, is a tangy, flavourful dish perfect for a quick meal or festive occasions. Here’s how you can prepare this delicious, easy-to-make rice.
Start by cooking 1 cup of rice and set it aside to cool.
Soak a small ball of tamarind in warm water for 15 minutes, then extract the juice.
Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal, curry leaves, dried red chillies, and peanuts. Sauté until golden.
Add the tamarind juice, 1 tsp turmeric, and salt. Simmer until the mixture thickens.
Pour the tamarind mixture over the rice, mix well, and garnish with coriander.
