Parsi New Year, also known as Navroz, is celebrated with great enthusiasm by the Parsi community. It marks the beginning of the Iranian calendar and is a time for family gatherings and feasting. Here are some iconic dishes from the Parsi community that are a must-try.

Dhansak

Dhansak is a signature Parsi dish that combines lentils, meat (usually mutton or chicken), and vegetables. Cooked with a rich blend of spices, including cumin, coriander, and ginger, this dish is traditionally served with caramelised brown rice.

Patra Ni Machhi

This iconic Parsi dish features fresh fish (usually pomfret or a similar white fish) marinated in a flavourful green chutney made from cilantro, mint, coconut, and spices. The fish is then wrapped in banana leaves and steamed.

Sali Boti

Sali Boti is a delicious Parsi mutton curry that is known for its rich and tangy flavour. Made with succulent pieces of meat cooked in a tomato and onion gravy, it is flavoured with vinegar, jaggery, and a blend of spices. The dish is traditionally garnished with crispy potato sticks called sali.

Akuri

Akuri is a spicy scrambled egg dish that is a breakfast staple in Parsi households. Made with eggs cooked to a soft consistency and flavoured with onions, tomatoes, green chillies, and fresh coriander.

Lagan Nu Custard

This classic Parsi dessert is a rich, creamy custard flavoured with vanilla, nutmeg, and cardamom. The custard is baked until it achieves a caramelised top.  It is traditionally served at weddings and special occasions.

Kolmi No Patio

Kolmi No Patio is a spicy and tangy prawn curry that features a tomato-based sauce infused with garlic, onions, and a variety of spices. This dish is characterised by its vibrant red colour and robust flavours and is a favourite among seafood lovers.

Farcha

Parsi Chicken Farcha is the Parsi version of fried chicken. The chicken is marinated in a mixture of ginger-garlic paste, spices, and lemon juice, then coated with breadcrumbs and deep-fried.
