Both paratha and parotta are popular flatbreads in India and due to their similar names, many people confuse them for each other. They may sound the same but they are two distinct flatbreads. Keep reading to learn more about their differences.

Paratha is a popular North Indian flatbread commonly eaten for breakfast. It usually uses whole-wheat flour in its preparation with various stuffings.

Parotta is a staple South Indian flatbread and it uses maida or all-purpose flour, in its preparation, unlike paratha.

Paratha uses whole-wheat flour (atta), whereas parotta uses all-purpose flour (maida) in its preparation.

Paratha is simply rolled out to give a layered texture but for parotta, you first roll out the dough into a ball, then into a rope, and then coil it before rolling it out again.
