Paddy Fishes: Jharkhand's Traditional Puti Mach Recipe

The most commonly seen little fishes in the paddy field are known as puti mach. This is a staple non-vegetarian delicacy in most villages and local communities during monsoon season in Jharkhand. These fishes are also sold in Sunday markets, and one can find salted and sun-dried puti to enjoy as a snack. 

Ingredients

300 grams  paddy fish 2 tablespoon mustard oil 2-3 green chilies 1 teaspoon ginger paste 2- 3 garlic cloves 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder: 1 teaspoon red chilli powder 1 teaspoon coriander powder 1 teaspoon cumin seeds Salt to taste

Step 1

Marinate the cleaned puti fish with turmeric powder, red chilli powder, and salt for about 15 minutes.

Step 2

Heat mustard oil, add green chillies, grated ginger, and minced garlic with marinated fish.

Step 3

Add water for gravy with coriander powder and salt to taste.

Step 4

Cover and cook before serving hot.
