With a rich history and unique tribal influences, Chhattisgarh's cuisine shines as one of central India's most interesting. Here are 8 dishes to help you get to know it better. 

Muthia

Steamed dumplings made from rice flour and seasoned with spices. Often served with chutney, these bite-sized delights are a local favourite.

Bara

Made from fermented urad dal it’s similar to the South Indian vadas. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and bursting with flavour.

Phara (Fara)

Dumplings made with rice and rice flour boiled or steamed, and then tempered with aromatic spices.

Aamat

A tangy and spicy curry from the Bastar region traditionally made with foraged greens and bamboo shoots for a unique blend of flavours.

Chilla

Thin besan pancakes, lightly spiced and cooked until golden brown. Served with chutney, these are a popular breakfast item.

Chausela

Similar to puris or luchis in other parts of India, these light traditional breads are made using rice flour.

Bafauri

Similar to pakoras, these small dumplings are made from powdered chana dal salt and spices and steamed for a quick snack.
