By Jasmine Kaur

The Persian new year is being celebrated on March 21 this year as per the Gregorian calendar. To add flavour to the day, begin with these traditional breakfast recipes.

Adasi

A quick and easy-to-make lentil soup from the Persian cuisine, this one is rich in protein and provides the body with a lot of energy early in the morning.

Persian Tea And Bread

This is a classic and simple breakfast combination, where freshly baked bread or naan is bought from the store and paired with a sweet Persian tea sans milk.

Haleem

This is a thick and nutritious porridge that is made with wheat and meat. While it takes a lot of time to cook, the shredded meat and wheat combo provides the body with ample energy.

Persian Omelette

The Persian style of making omelette is not very different, except that it has varieties like a tomato omelette made with a tomato paste or spinach one with fresh leaves.

Kale Pache

Another nutritious soup that features at the Persian breakfast table is kale pache. It is made from the sheep’s head and hooves and is a powerhouse of energy.

Butter & Jam

A huge variety of jams, from carrot to ginger, cherries and oranges, are available in the Persian breakfast platter. Butter and cream topped on a toast are also enjoyed equally.

Bread, Cheese & Walnuts

Bread and cheese are a preferred breakfast combo in Iran. You would find this being topped with walnuts, roasted sesame seeds and several other nuts.
