Cutting a cake can be tricky but with the right techniques, you can get perfect slices every time. Here are some simple tips to help you cut your cake cleanly with no mess.
A sharp non-serrated knife cuts cleaner than a dull or serrated one, and crumbs will not scatter.
Dip the knife in hot water, wipe dry and cut. The heat helps it glide through the cake, especially with creamy frostings.
Do not use the saw process to cut the cut, instead press the knife straight down through the cake for a clean slice.
Wipe off frosting or crumbs from the knife after each cut to keep slices neat.
Refrigerate the cake for 15-20 minutes before cutting to firm it up, especially for soft or frosted cakes.
Unflavoured dental floss is great for making precise clean cuts without disturbing the layers.
For uniform slices start cutting from the center of the cake and work your way out.
Cake slicers make even slices with ease.
