Always use an OTG instead of a microwave if you are baking your cake at home.
Do not start icing your cake while it is still hot. Let it rest for a bit.
Stick to the recipe. The secret to baking the perfect cake is proportion of the ingredients.
Do not over mix or under mix your ingredients. The texture of the cake will not come right.
Do not keep opening the oven and checking the cake multiple times. It deflates the cake. Have patience.
