Grown in the Western Ghats, kokum is a fruit boasting medical properties. It is considered good for the digestive system and can even help you with acid reflux issues. The fruit is used to make drinks that regulate the temperature of the body in summer. Here is a quick recipe you can try out.
Black salt ½ cup dried kokum peels Ice cubes 4 cups of water Fresh mint leaves 1 teaspoon roasted cumin powder 1 cup sugar
Wash and rinse dried kokum peels to remove dirt and add them to a pan with boiling water.
Let the peels simmer for 10-15 minutes. Turn off the flame and let it sit for a while.
Strain the mixture through a large sieve or cheesecloth into a pitcher. This will help you get rid of peels.
Add sugar to the concoction and stir it continuously until the granules have dissolved. Taste and adjust the sweetness level.
Add salt to taste and roasted cumin powder for earthy notes. Refrigerate the pitcher for a couple of hours.
Add ice cubes to glasses, pour in sharbat, and garnish with mint leaves before serving.
