Sabudana dishes are popular during Navratri as they are light, filling, and made from tapioca pearls, which are allowed during fasting. From sabudana khichdi to sabudana vada, these dishes are easy to prepare, seasoned with simple spices, and provide energy while maintaining the fasting guidelines.
One of the most popular dishes made with sabudana is Sabudana Khichdi. This savoury dish is a wholesome combination of soaked sabudana, roasted peanuts, boiled potatoes, and mild spices like cumin and green chillies.
Another festive favourite is Sabudana Vada, a crispy and golden fritter made by combining soaked sabudana, mashed potatoes, and roasted peanuts.
For those with a sweet tooth, Sabudana Kheer is a traditional dessert made with tapioca pearls cooked in milk, sweetened with sugar or jaggery, and flavoured with cardamom.
Sabudana Thalipeeth is a traditional Maharashtrian flatbread made with soaked sabudana, mashed potatoes, roasted peanuts, and a few spices.
Sabudana papad is a crisp snack made from tapioca pearls. The process involves soaking sabudana, mixing it with spices and seasonings, and then forming thin discs or sheets.
To prepare sabudana chivda, soaked sabudana is first drained and then roasted until crisp. It is mixed with a variety of ingredients, including peanuts, curry leaves, green chillies, and spices such as cumin and turmeric
Sabudana Ladoo is a lesser-known yet delicious dish made by roasting sabudana until golden, grinding it into a fine powder, and mixing it with jaggery, ghee, and cardamom.
