Navratri is the time to celebrate with your family and show your devotion to Maa Durga. Here is a Bengali khichdi or khichudi recipe for you cook for your Bhog to Devi Maa.

1 cup sonachur rice 1 cup yellow moong dal 2 tbsp ghee Salt as required .5 tsp turmeric powder 1 inch grated ginger .5 tsp jeera powder 1 tsp dhaniya powder 2 tsp garam masala 2 potatoes, cut into half 1 carrot, diced 100 gms green beans, chopped 2 bay leaves Coriander leaves for garnish

In a pressure cooker, add ghee and the vegetables - potatoes, carrot and beans and fry them till golden. Remove and keep them aside.

Add bay leaf and grated ginger to the same vessel. Slowly add your dal and roast till you get an aroma. Next, add soaked sonachur rice rice.

One by one, add all the powdered spices except garam masala. Cook for 5-6 minutes on low flame. Mix the veggies, add water and close the lid of the cooker.

After 2 whistles - one on high heat and one on low, turn off the flame. Add ghee and garam masala. Garnish with fresh dhaniya leaves.
