Navratri 2023: 9 Colourful Dishes For Every Day Of The Festival

The 9 Day festival of Navratri, is a time to honour the incarnations of the Goddess Durga. Each day of the festival is dedicated to a different avatar and also has a corresponding colour.  Here are 9 dishes to make on each of the days to honour each deity. 

Day 1: Orange (Shailaputri)

The initial day honours Shailaputri, symbolising nature and purity. The colour orange represents warmth and positivity. To celebrate, prepare motichoor laddoos to spread joy.

Day 2: White (Brahmacharini)

Day two pays homage to Goddess Brahmacharini. She wears white symbolising peace, knowledge, and purity. Make a snow-white makhana kheer to bring serenity to your home.

Day 3: Red (Chandraghanta)

On the third day, honour the red of Chandraghanta, the embodiment of bravery and beauty. Make a vibrant beetroot juice or cooling beetroot khadi to appease Chandraghanta.

Day 4: Royal Blue (Kushmanda)

Day four honours Kushmanda, the creator of the universe, dressed in royal blue to show stability and strength. Enjoy a blueberry smoothie bowl or dried prunes to mark the occasion.

Day 5: Yellow (Skandamata)

On the fifth day, revere Skandamata, the mother of Skanda. Yellow embodies joy and optimism. Prepare a kesar doodh to sweeten the occasion.

Day 6: Green (Katyayani)

The sixth day pays tribute to Katyayani, symbolising bravery and triumph. Green represents harmony and growth. Make lauki halwa to honour the goddess.

Day 7: Grey (Kalaratri)

The seventh day is dedicated to Kalaratri, representing emancipation and destruction. Grey symbolises subtlety and mystery. Enjoy a simple sabudana kheer to channel Kalaratri’s favour.

Navratri Day 8: Purple (Mahagauri)

Mahagauri, symbolising elegance and beauty, is venerated on the eighth day. Purple represents wealth and opulence. Prepare baingan bharta or enjoy jamun juice to honour Mahagauri.

Navratri Day 9: Peacock Green (Siddhidatri)

The ninth day celebrates Siddhidatri who represents completion and perfection, adorned in peacock green to show diversity and abundance. Make dishes with dill leaves or enjoy peacock green barfis to mark the day.
