Fasting on Navratri? Try this easy makhana kheer recipe.
2 tbsp ghee, 2 ½ cups makhana, 6 cashew nuts (halved), 1 L milk, ½ tsp cardamom powder, 6 tbsp sugar, few strands of saffron, 1 tbsp pistachios (chopped)
Heat ghee in a pan, add makhana and roast until it absorbs all the ghee.
Divide the makhana into two parts and crush half of it and reserve the rest.
Heat ghee in a pan and add in cashew and cook for around 4-5 minutes.
Then add the crushed part to the milk, followed by the whole makhana and boil the milk and simmer it until it reduces to 3/4 of its quantity.
After the makhana has turned soft, add sugar, saffron and cardamom powder and cook for 4-5 minutes. Serve the makhana kheer hot or chilled.
