For the holy festival of Navratri, many people choose to fast and cut wheat flour out of their diets and instead favour gluten-free flour in devotion of the Goddess Durga. Here are a few substitutes that you could use.

Buckwheat Flour

Rich in fibre, protein and calcium it serves as a high-performance substitute for maida.

Rajgira Flour

Made from Amaranth seeds plant it can easily be ground at home and boosts bone health, and digestion.

Samo Seed

Known as Bhagar it’s very similar in texture to semolina and can be used the same way in baking.

Sabudana Flour

A staple of Vrat cooking its high starch content can be used to bulk up a meal, and give body to dishes.

Singhara Flour

Made from ground-up water chestnuts this is a nutritious fruit-based flour that’s high on fibre and keeps you full for hours.
