Szechuan, Cantonese, and pinyin or romanized – there are many different types of dumplings in the Chinese cuisine. And if you too are confused within the varieties, we’ve got you a list of the most common types of Chinese dumplings. 

Jiaozi

Jiaozi the most prevalent crescent-shaped Chinese dumpling is made of wheat dough, filled with minced pork, cabbage, and scallions

Har Gao

Har gao is a steamed oval shaped dumpling made with wheat and tapioca starch and filled with shrimp, pork fat, and bamboo shoots.

Xiao Long Bao

AKA 'soup dumplings’, these are filled \chopped pork and collagen-rich pork trimmings which melts on steaming and results in gelatin, giving a flavorful broth. 

Siu Mai

Pronounced ‘shoo-my', this is a round basket-shaped dumpling are filled with ground pork and shrimp, or mushrooms, ginger, and green onions

Wontons

Prepared in a variety of ways depending on the filling and if they are boiled, steamed, or fried. Originally, the dough made from wheat flour, egg, and water, stuffed with pork or shrimp.
