Bondas are deep-fried round balls that taste delicious when savoured with sambar or chutney. You can make bonda of any food item, however, Mysore bondas are made of urad dal. They are soft and lightweight. Check out the recipe.
2 cups water ½ cup urad dal ½ tsp black pepper & cumin seeds 3 tbsp grated coconut A pinch of asafoetida Salt to taste Oil for frying 1.5 tbsp rice flour 1 chopped green chilli ½ inch ginger 8-10 curry leaves
Rinse lentils thoroughly to get rid of dirt and dust. Soak the grains overnight.
After draining water, grind urad dal into a smooth paste. Whisk the batter for 5 minutes or until it gets brisk.
Add all the spices, coconut, and rice flour to the mixture. Beat the mixture again until it absorbs some air.
Grease a spoon or your palms with oil and make small balls with the urad dal batter.
Drop the bondas in a kadhai filled with hot oil. Fry them until the crust is crispy.
Serve delicious Mysore bondas with tangy sambar or sumptuous coconut chutney.
