Mumbai-Style Batata Vada Recipe You Will Drool On

A well-known street food dish from India made mostly with pav bread and deep-fried batata vada filling. Yummy and delicious snack for munching!

FOR THE FILLING

1 1/2 cups boiled and mashed potatoes 2 green chillies , chopped 1 1/2 tbsp grated garlic (lehsun) 2 tsp roughly chopped ginger (adrak) 1 tsp mustard seeds (rai / sarson) 1/4 tsp asafoetida (hing) 6 to 8 curry leaves (kadi patta) 1/2 tsp turmeric powder (haldi) 1 tbsp oil

FOR OUTER COVERING

3/4 cup besan (bengal gram flour) 1/4 tsp turmeric powder (haldi) a pinch of baking soda 1 tsp oil salt to taste

METHOD

Take a pan heat oil and add garlic, green chillies and ginger, mustard seeds, add asafoetida & curry leaves, sauté.

Now add semi boiled potatoes, turmeric and salt mix well. Let it rest for sometime. Then make small rounds.

To make the batter add besan, turmeric powder, baking soda, oil and salt into water, mix all for a smooth texture.

Now take the potato balls and Dip them in the batter. Coat them well and deep Fry the balls.

Slice the pav and add garlic chutney, place the vada ball and close it with a green chilli.

Garnish with fried chilli and chutneys. Serve them hot and enjoy!
