Moong Dal Pakora: A Must-Try Monsoon Recipe

Monsoon is making its way to parts of North India, and it is time to visit roadside stalls serving delicious mingode or moong dal pakoras with mint and coriander chutney and a hot cup of tea. It is the best snack to enjoy as the rain pours and washes cities.

Ingredients

½ cup rice 2 cups moong dal 1 finely chopped onion ⅓ cup coriander leaves ‘3 dried red chillies 1 tsp turmeric powder A pinch of hing or asafoetida Salt to taste Oil for frying

Step 1

Soak moong dal for at least two hours before grinding it into a coarse paste. 

Step 2

Add red chillies, hing, onions, turmeric powder, and coriander leaves to the paste, and grind again for just 5-10 seconds.

Step 3

Pour the paste into a deep bowl. Season it with salt to taste and a pinch of black pepper (optional).

Step 4

Keep a heavy bottom kadhai on the gas stove and heat oil in it.

Step 5

Take the moong dal mixture in your hands and make small vadi or pakoras with it.

Step 6

Drop the mixture in the hot oil and cook pakoras until crispy. Serve them with mint chutney and masala chai or ginger tea.
