Whether you choose Mishri (rock sugar) or sugar as your sweetener, depends on the specific requirements of your culinary endeavours and your personal taste preferences. Sugar, with its neutral flavour and wide versatility, is a common choice for many recipes. On the other hand, Mishri's distinctive caramel-like taste makes it a fantastic addition to traditional Indian dishes and beverages. Here are 6 differences between Mishri and Sugar and what is healthier.

Mishri (rock sugar) is a natural sweetener. It is sometimes called rock candy or candy sugar, but there's nothing candy-like about it except for the sweetness.

Sugar, commonly known as table sugar, is another sweetening agent.

Mishri is unrefined, whereas sugar is refined. When sugarcane juice is processed into sugar, an intermediate stage produces a dirty-looking raw sugar. At this point, a certain portion is removed to make mishri.

Mishri is cooling in nature, while sugar is heating in nature.

Mishri is an alkaline food and is easier to digest. Sugar is acidic and takes longer to digest.

Since mishri is not processed, it contains some vitamins and minerals whereas sugar contains none.
