Matar Paratha: A Hearty Dish For A Wholesome Winter Meal

Green peas paratha is a delicious whole wheat flatbread that is stuffed with spiced mashed peas filling. It can be made for breakfast, lunch or can also be packed in the tiffin box. Here is an easy recipe to make matar paratha at home.

Ingredients

2 cups whole wheat flour (atta), salt to taste, 2 tbsp ghee + to shallow-fry, 1 cup green peas blanched shelled, 1 tbsp oil, 1 onion chopped finely, ½ inch ginger chopped finely, 5-6 garlic chopped finely, a pinch of asafoetida, 1 tsp cumin powder, 1 tsp red chilli powder

Step 1

Place atta, salt and 2 tbsp of ghee in a bowl and knead into a soft dough with water. Cover with a damp cloth and keep aside. Heat oil in a pan.

Step 2

Add onion, ginger and garlic and sauté till light brown. Add asafoetida, cumin, red chilli powder, peas, salt and cook till dry. Remove into a plate to cool.

Step 3

When cool, grind coarsely and divide into 8 portions. Shape into small balls. Divide dough into 8 portions and roll out each portion into a disc, place a ball of stuffing in the center.

Step 4

Gather edges and roll out into a paratha. Heat a tawa and cook paratha using ghee till light golden on both sides. Serve hot with pickle of your choice.
