Dosa is a staple Indian breakfast and it is made by using fermented rice and lentil batter. The process may appear straightforward but to get the best dosa, you need to strike the perfect ratio between rice and dal.
The standard ratio of 1 part dal to 3 parts rice, such as using 1 cup of urad dal with 3 cups of rice.
Different types of dals can be used in combination with urad dal, such as moong dal or chana dal, to create variations in flavour and texture. Experimenting with different dals can lead to unique dosa experiences.
If you like thinner and crisper dosas, increase the percentage of rice to dal. 1 cup dal to 4 cups rice would be perfect.
If you like thicker, softer dosas, reduce the rice amount. Use a ratio of 1 cup of dal to 2.5 cups of rice.
Whatever ratio you pick, make sure the batter is smooth, free-flowing, and has a pouring consistency. It plays a crucial role in making dosas.
