Although the rotla is a Gujarati staple, it is savoured all over the country with various gravies, chutneys, curries, and more. Learn to make this iconic bajra-based flatbread at home with this simple three-ingredient recipe.

Ingredients

2 cups of bajra flour (black millet flour) 1 cup of water 1 tablespoon ghee

Method

Step 1: Combine the bajra flour with water and knead the mixture till it forms a semi-soft dough. Step 2: Separate the dough in equal proportions, and mould the separated portions into balls.

Method

Step 3: Sprinkle bajra flour on the worktop, place the balls on the surface, and flatten them one-by-one to make rotlas. Step 4: Position the rotlas on an earthen tawa; smudge your palms with water and gently stroke the flatbreads.

Method

Step 5: After the water has dried up, toss the rotlas and cook them till they are fully done on both sides. Step 6: Spread a smattering of ghee on the freshly prepared rotlas and relish them with any condiment or side dish of your choice.
