Malabar region in India is known for its exquisite dishes that are flavour bombs in your mouth. If you are a fan of seafood delicacies, you must try making Malabar matthi curry at home with this easy recipe.
300 grams of sardine fish ½ tsp mustard seeds 1 sliced tomato 2 tbsp coconut oil 1 cup coconut milk 3 tbsp tamarind pulp 1 cup water 3 green chillies 10 peeled and sliced onions 1 sprig of curry leaves 1 tsp turmeric powder 1 tbsp chilli powder & ginger Salt to taste
In a pan, heat coconut oil and temper curry leaves and mustard seeds in it.
Once seeds start to splutter, add chopped onions, tomatoes, ginger, and green chillies.
Saute until onions turn brown and tomatoes soften. Add chilli powder and turmeric powder to the pan.
After roasting the spices and witnessing the oil separating, add tamarind pulp and water along with salt to taste and fish.
Check to see if the fish is 80% cooked at least. Add coconut water and cover the curry with a lid.
After simmering the ingredients for 5-8 with occasional stirring, turn off the flame. Serve the curry with parotta or rice.
