Almond milk is a delicious and nutritious plant-based alternative to dairy milk, perfect for those who are lactose intolerant or following a vegan diet. Making almond milk at home is simple and ensures a fresh, additive-free beverage. Here’s a quick guide to creating your own almond milk at home.
Start by soaking 1 cup of raw almonds in water overnight or for at least 8-12 hours. This softens the almonds and makes them easier to blend.
After soaking, drain and thoroughly rinse the almonds under cold water.
Place the soaked almonds in a blender with 3-4 cups of fresh water. Blend on high speed for 2-3 minutes until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
Pour the blended mixture through a nut milk bag, cheesecloth, or a fine-mesh strainer into a large bowl, squeezing out as much liquid as possible.
Transfer the strained almond milk into a glass jar or bottle and refrigerate. It can be stored for up to 4-5 days. Shake well before use.
