If you are a vegan looking for budget-friendly and good options for cheese in the market, you might not find them. However, you can easily block at home without much effort. Here is a quick guide.
2 tbsp nutritional yeast ½ cup hot water 1 can of coconut milk 2 tbsp agar agar ½ tsp lemon juice A pinch of salt ¼ tsp garlic powder (optional)
Spray oil to grease the cheese moulds so that you can prevent the ingredients from sticking to the surface.
Heat coconut milk in a saucepan along with hot water. It will help to keep the consistency slightly more runny.
Add agar agar, yeast, lemon juice, garlic powder, and salt to the pan and stir vigorously.
Once the concoction comes to a boil, turn down the heat. Keep stirring so that agar agar activates as it will set the cheese.
After 5-7 minutes, pour this mixture into cheese moulds and let it sit at room temperature for 15 minutes.
Keep the moulds in the refrigerator for a couple of hours for the cheese to set into blocks.
