Celebrate Durga Puja with Bhog Er Payesh, a creamy rice pudding made with Gobindobhog rice. Rich, aromatic, and sweetened with rock sugar, this classic Bengali dessert is perfect for the festive bhog.
1½ litre milk 1 cup Gobindobhog rice 300g Misri/Rock Sugar ¼ cup raisins 2 tbsp cashews (optional) 2 bay leaves 4-5 green cardamoms (lightly crushed)
Break the Misri into small chunks using a heavy object. Wash the Gobindobhog rice thoroughly, drain it, and set it aside.
Pour the milk into a deep-bottomed pan. Bring it to a boil on high heat.
Add the rice and bay leaves. Cook on medium heat, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
Once the rice is cooked, add the Misri chunks. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely.
Add the cardamoms, cashews, and raisins. Mix well and remove from heat.
Allow the Payesh to cool to room temperature before serving. Enjoy the festive treat!
