During fasting (vrat), it can be challenging to find snacks that align with dietary restrictions, especially when you're craving something crunchy and delicious. Vrat-friendly chips are a great solution! These chips are not only light but also made with ingredients that are allowed during fasting, such as rock salt (sendha namak) and specific fasting flours or vegetables. Here’s a simple recipe to make crispy, vrat-friendly chips.

Ingredients

– 2 large potatoes or sweet potatoes (or raw banana for variation) – 1 tablespoon sendha namak (rock salt) – 1 teaspoon black pepper powder or cumin powder (jeera powder) – 2 cups water – Ghee or peanut oil (for frying) – Fresh coriander (optional, for garnish)

Step 1

Wash and peel the potatoes (or sweet potatoes/bananas). Slice them very thinly using a sharp knife or a mandoline slicer to ensure even cooking. Place the sliced potatoes in a bowl of water mixed with rock salt for 10 minutes

Step 2

After soaking, drain the water and pat the slices dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper napkins. Heat ghee or peanut oil in a deep pan or kadhai. Once the oil is hot, fry the potato slices in small batches until golden and crispy

Step 3

Once fried, place the chips on a plate lined with a paper towel to absorb excess oil. Immediately sprinkle black pepper or cumin powder and additional sendha namak to taste. You can also garnish with freshly chopped coriander for extra flavor.

Step 4

Let the chips cool completely before storing them in an airtight container to maintain their crunchiness.
