Chili crisp is a popular Chinese condiment made from chili oil, crispy fried garlic, Sichuan peppercorns, and other savory seasonings. It's perfect for adding a spicy kick to stir-fries, noodles, or even pizza! Here's a recipe for making your own homemade chili crisp:
1 cup vegetable oil 1/2 cup dried chili flakes 1/4 cup Sichuan peppercorns 1/4 cup soy sauce 1/4 cup chopped scallions 1/4 cup crispy fried garlic 2 tablespoons sesame seeds 2 tablespoons vinegar 1 tablespoon sugar 1 teaspoon salt
In a small pan, toast the Sichuan peppercorns over low heat until fragrant. Remove from heat and let cool.
In a medium saucepan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the dried chili flakes and toasted Sichuan peppercorns, and stir constantly for 2-3 minutes.
Remove the pan from heat and let the oil cool for 5 minutes. Then, strain the oil through a fine-mesh sieve into a heatproof bowl or jar.
Add the soy sauce, scallions, crispy fried garlic, sesame seeds, black vinegar, sugar, and salt to the bowl or jar. Stir until well combined.
Let the chili crisp cool to room temperature, then cover and refrigerate until ready to use. The flavors will meld and intensify over time.
