Makhandi Halwa is a rich, delectable dessert that can be easily made at home. The traditional Peshawari recipe calls for some simple pantry ingredients and offers wholesome goodness. The halwa has an irresistible aroma and melt-in-your-mouth texture. Make this at home with this simple recipe.

– 1 cup semolina (sooji) – 1/2 cup ghee – 1 cup sugar – 2 cups water – 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder – Sliced almonds, cashews, and raisins for garnish – A pinch of saffron strands

Heat ghee in a heavy-bottomed pan or kadhai over medium heat. Once the ghee is hot, add the sooji to the pan. Stir continuously and roast the semolina until it turns golden brown and releases a nutty aroma.

In another saucepan, heat the water until it comes to a boil. Slowly add the boiling water to the roasted semolina while stirring continuously to avoid lumps.

Add the sugar to the sooji mixture and continue to stir until the sugar dissolves completely. Add the cardamom powder and saffron strands to the mixture and mix well.

Cook the halwa over low heat, stirring continuously, until it thickens and starts to leave the sides of the pan. After 5-7 minutes remove it from the heat.

Garnish the Makhandi Halwa with sliced almonds, cashews, and raisins. Serve the halwa warm.
