Made with white peas and potatoes, ghugni is a yummy snack and accompaniment that is very popular in Bengal, Orissa and Bihar. Here is an easy recipe to make street style ghugni at home.

2 cups yellow peas (soaked, drained and boiled) 2 tbsp oil 1 onion ½ tsp cumin seeds 1 bay leaf 1 tsp ginger, finely chopped ¼ tsp turmeric powder 1 tomato, chopped 2 tsp roasted cumin powder ¼ cup fresh coconut, sliced Salt to taste 2 green chillies ½ tsp garam masala powder

Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Add cumin seeds, bay leaf and onion and sauté till lightly browned. Add ginger, turmeric powder, tomato and a little water and mix.

Sauté till tomato becomes pulpy. Add peas and mix well. Then add ¼ cup water and salt.

Add cumin powder and coconut slices, green chillies, garam masala powder and mix. Cover and cook on medium heat for 5 minutes. Enjoy.
