Make your brunch or mid-morning snack a healthy and delicious one by incorporating oats idli into your platter. Oats idli is packed with fibre, vitamins and minerals. It combines the goodness of oats with the traditional flavours of South Indian cuisine. Here’s the simple recipe to make oats idli at home.
1 cup rolled oats 1 cup semolina (sooji) 1 cup yoghurt 1/2 cup water 1/2 cup grated carrot 1/2 cup chopped cilantro 1/2 cup chopped green chilies 1 tsp mustard seeds 1 tsp urad dal (split black gram) 1 tsp oil Salt to taste 1 tsp baking soda
Dry roast the rolled oats until lightly golden and aromatic. Let them cool down and then grind them into a fine powder.
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground oats, semolina, yoghurt, and water to make a smooth batter. Let it ferment for 30 minutes.
In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds and urad dal. Once they splutter, add chopped green chilies, grated carrot, and chopped cilantro. Sauté for a few minutes and then add this mixture to the batter. Mix well.Add salt and baking soda to the batter and mix gently.
Grease idli molds and pour the batter into each mold. Steam the idlis for 10-12 minutes or until they are cooked through.
Once done, remove from the molds and serve hot with coconut chutney or sambar.
