Making rotis for the first time? Making round, soft rotis can feel tricky, but with some simple tips, you’ll have perfect results in no time. With practice and patience, these tips will help you make rotis that everyone will love.
Knead a soft, smooth dough that isn’t too sticky or too hard. Let it rest for 15–30 minutes to make it pliable.
Roll small, equal portions of dough to ensure all rotis cook evenly and have a uniform shape.
Lightly dust the dough with flour before rolling, but avoid using too much, as this can make rotis dry.
Roll gently from the center outward. Avoid pressing too hard, and rotate the dough to get an even, round shape.
Ensure the tawa is very hot before placing the roti on it. This helps the roti puff up and become soft.
Flip the roti when light bubbles appear. Allow it to cook on both sides, and gently press with a cloth to encourage puffing, if needed.
For extra softness, brush with ghee or butter right after cooking.
