Double ka Meetha, which is quite similar to another desi dessert known as Shahi Tukda, is a popular sweet treat made with bread slices, sugar syrup, and garnished with nuts. And guess what? It's preferred by tennis superstar Sania Mirza too! Here's a simple recipe for Hyderabadi Double ka Meetha which you can try at home.

Ingredients

6 slices of bread 1 cup ghee 1 cup sugar 1 cup water 1/2 cup milk 1/2 cup condensed milk 1/2 teaspoon cardamom A pinch of saffron strands (optional) Chopped nuts (almonds, cashews, and pistachios) for garnish

Step 1

Trim the edges of the bread slices and cut each slice into halves or quarters. Heat ghee in a pan over medium heat. Fry the bread slices until they turn golden brown and crispy. Make sure to fry both sides evenly.

Step 2

In a saucepan, combine sugar and water to make a sugar syrup. Bring it to a boil and let it simmer until the syrup reaches a one-string consistency. Add cardamom powder and saffron strands (if using) to the syrup. Keep it aside.

In another saucepan, heat milk and condensed milk together. Stir continuously and let it simmer for a few minutes until it thickens slightly.

Dip each fried bread slice into the sugar syrup for a few seconds. Arrange the soaked bread slices in a serving dish. Pour the condensed milk mixture over the soaked bread slices, ensuring they are well-covered

Step 5

Let it cool for some time, allowing the bread slices to absorb the flavors. Garnish the Double ka Meetha with chopped nuts.
