Limoncello is a citrusy lemon-based aperitif from Italy that is used in a host of cocktails. Owing to its light, airy, effervescent quality, this drink is considered a summertime favourite. Here’s a simple limoncello recipe to keep you hydrated this summer.
10 lemons 1 litre vodka 3 cups white sugar 4 cups water
Use a peeler to zest the lemons. Once completed, put the zest in a container of some kind, preferably a bottle or a jar.
Add vodka to the bottle of zest. Close the bottle loosely and allow the vodka and zest to blend well for approximately a week.
After a week, mix water and sugar in a pan and boil the concoction. Ensure not to stir the mixture.
After the mixture has boiled for about 15 minutes, remove it from the heat and set the syrup aside to cool. Ensure that the cooling takes place at room temperature.
Pour the vodka concoction into the syrup; subsequently strain the drink into glass bottles, sealing them with a cork once done. Set the bottles aside at room temperature for about two weeks.
After two weeks, chill the limoncello in the freezer. Once chilled adequately, savour the rejuvenating drink in arty vodka or shot glasses.
