Rava Upma is a classic South Indian breakfast dish made with semolina (rava) and a blend of spices. It's quick, easy, and delicious.

Ingredients

1 cup rava (semolina) 2 tbsp oil or ghee 1 tsp mustard seeds 1 tsp urad dal 8-10 curry leaves

Ingredients

1-2 green chillies 1 medium onion 1/4 cup carrots 1/4 cup peas 2 1/2 cups water Salt to taste 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves Juice of half a lemon

Step 1

Heat a pan and dry roast the rava on medium heat until aromatic and lightly golden. Set aside.

Step 2

Heat oil or ghee in a pan. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add urad dal, curry leaves, and green chilies. Sauté for a few seconds.

Step 3

Add chopped onions and sauté until translucent. Add carrots and peas (if using) and cook until slightly tender.

Step 4

Pour in the water and add salt. Bring it to a boil. Gradually add the roasted rava to the boiling water, stirring continuously to avoid lumps.

Step 5

Cover and cook on low heat for 2-3 minutes until the rava absorbs the water. Turn off the heat and mix in coriander leaves and lemon juice. Serve the upma hot with coconut chutney, pickle, or a cup of tea.
