Matar Paneer is a popular North Indian dish featuring green peas (matar) and paneer ( cottage cheese) cooked in a rich and flavourful tomato-based gravy. This delicious dish can be served hot with naan, roti, or steamed rice.
200 gms paneer 1 cup green peas 2 tbsp mustard oil or ghee 2 tomatoes 1 onion 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste 2 green chilies 1 tsp cumin seeds 1 bay leaf
1 tsp turmeric powder 1 tsp red chilli powder 1 tsp coriander powder 1 tsp garam masala 1/2 tsp kasuri methi 1/2 cup fresh cream Fresh coriander
Heat mustard oil. Lightly fry paneer cubes and set aside.If using fresh peas, blanch them in boiling water for 2-3 minutes. If using frozen peas, rinse them under warm water.
In the same pan, heat the remaining mustard oil or ghee. Add cumin seeds and bay leaf. Add finely chopped onions and sauté. Add ginger-garlic paste and slit green chilies.
Add the tomato puree and cook until the oil starts to separate from the masala.Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, and salt.
Add the green peas to the gravy and mix well. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the peas are tender. Add the fried paneer cubes and mix.
Sprinkle garam masala and crushed kasuri methi. Cook for another 3-4 minutes. Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves.
