Murukku is a traditional South Indian snack that is a crunchy and savoury delight made from rice flour and urad dal flour. This beloved treat is a perfect for festive occasions or as a tea-time snack. Besides, it is both flavourful and easy to prepare. Take a look at its simple recipe:
2 cups rice flour 1/2 cup urad dal flour 1 tsp sesame seeds 1 tsp cumin seeds 1/2 tsp asafoetida (hing) 1 tbsp butter (room temperature) Salt to taste Water, as needed Oil for deep frying
In a large mixing bowl, combine rice flour, urad dal flour, sesame seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, and salt. Mix well.
Add the butter to the flour mixture and blend until it resembles coarse crumbs.
Gradually add water, a little at a time, kneading until you form a soft, pliable dough.
Fill a murukku press or a piping bag fitted with a star nozzle with the dough. Press out circular swirls of dough onto small pieces of parchment paper.
Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Carefully slide the murukku into the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crisp. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
