Kolkata Style Fish Fry is a beloved street food of the city of joy. The white flaky fish is marinated in a mix of fresh herbs, garlic, onions, and spices, then breaded and deep-fried to perfection.
500 grams of white fish fillets (bhetki/tilapia/cod) 1 medium onion 5-6 cloves of garlic 1 inch ginger 2 green chilies A handful of chopped cilantro/coriander leaves
A handful of mint leaves 2 tbsp fresh squeezed lime juice 1 tsp black pepper powder Salt to taste 2 cups of seasoned bread crumbs 3 eggs Canola oil
In a blender, grind onion, garlic, ginger, chilies, cilantro, and mint with lime juice into a smooth paste.
Marinate the fish fillets in this paste, adding black pepper and salt. Cover and refrigerate the marinated fish for 2 hours.
Mix bread crumbs with salt in a shallow bowl. Beat eggs with salt in another shallow bowl.
Dip each fish fillet in the egg mixture, then coat with bread crumbs. Refrigerate the breaded fish for 1-2 hours before frying.
Heat oil in a pan and fry each fillet for 4 to 6 minutes until golden brown.
