Karuppu ulundhu adai is like chilla made with black lentils. It is seasoned with a few Indian spices that amplify its taste and make it a perfect companion with tea or fresh juice. Here is its recipe.
1 cup regular rice 1/4 cup black lentils 7 red chillies 1 tsp pepper 1/4 tsp jeera/cumin A handful of curry leaves 3 tbsp thinly sliced coconut slivers A pinch of asafoetida As required oil to roast the adai To taste salt
Wash the rice and urad dal multiple times till the water appears clear. Soak the rice and lentils along with red chillies, jeera, and pepper for 6-8 hrs.
Grind the ingredients and make sure the batter is slightly thicker than the usual dosa mixture.
Add chopped curry leaves, coconut slivers, salt, and asafoetida to the batter. Stir the ingredients well.
Heat a griddle/ tawa, pour a ladle full of batter, and spread it like dosa from inside out. It will be slightly thicker than dosa.
Drizzle oil around the dosa and let it cook on medium flame.
Take it off the tawa and serve it hot with fresh butter and jaggery powder.
