Fafda is a crispy and savoury snack from Gujarat that can also be made at home. Made with besan and spices, it is a light snack that is often a part of an authentic Gujarati thali.
1 cup besan ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder ½ teaspoon red chilli powder ¼ teaspoon ajwain (carom seeds) ¼ teaspoon baking soda Salt to taste 2-3 tablespoons oil Water for kneading Oil for deep frying
Mix besan, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, ajwain, baking soda, and salt.
Add 2-3 tablespoons of water, and knead a stiff dough. Make it smooth using some oil.
Take small portions of the dough and roll each portion in a cylindrical shape.
Take one end of the cylindrical dough and press it gently.
Repeat with the other end to create a loop with two twists. Heat some oil and deep fry.
Serve with your favourite chutney or as an accompaniment.
