The tantalizing aroma and taste of freshly made Sattu Paratha is a beloved breakfast treat in the state of Bihar. This authentic recipe will show you how to make these nutritious flatbreads at home with ease.
2 cups sattu or roasted chickpea flour 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon red chili powder 1 teaspoon carom seeds 1 tablespoon mustard oil 1 cup water Whole wheat flour for kneading Oil or ghee for cooking
In a bowl, mix together sattu, salt, red chili powder, carom seeds and mustard oil.
Add in the water and knead to form a soft dough, adding some whole wheat flour if needed. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes.
Divide the dough into lemon sized balls. Dust lightly with flour and roll out into thin rounds using a rolling pin.
Heat a tawa over medium heat. Cook the parathas on both sides using a little oil or ghee, until golden brown spots appear.
Serve hot with curd, pickles, butter or any chutney of choice.
