Shakkar Laddoo which is a festive dessert popularly made across northern India. The popular Indian sweet is made from whole wheat flour, ghee and jaggery. It's a delicious and nutritious treat enjoyed during festivals like Diwali, Navratri, and Holi, as well as on special occasions. Make this delicious recipe at home!

Ingredients

– 1 cup whole wheat flour – 1/2 cup ghee – 1/2 cup powdered jaggery – 1/4 teaspoon cardamom – 2 tablespoons chopped nuts

Step 1

Heat a heavy-bottomed pan or kadhai over low to medium heat. Add the whole wheat flour to the pan and dry roast it, stirring continuously to prevent burning. Roast the flour until it turns golden brown and emits a nutty aroma.

Step 2

In a separate pan, heat the ghee over low heat until it melts. Once the ghee is melted, add the powdered jaggery to the pan. Stir the jaggery continuously until it melts and forms a syrup.

Step 3

Once the jaggery syrup is ready, pour it over the roasted wheat flour. Mix the syrup and flour together quickly and thoroughly, ensuring that all the flour is coated evenly with the syrup.

Step 4

Allow the mixture to cool slightly until it's safe to handle but still warm. Take a small portion of the mixture in your hands and shape it into a round ball or laddoo. Press firmly to ensure the laddoo holds its shape.

Step 5

Garnish the laddoos with chopped nuts like almonds, cashews, or pistachios. Gently press the chopped nuts onto the surface of each laddoo for decoration.
