Dim bhapa is a Bengali recipe that is easy to make and requires a minimal amount of time for preparation. It is like every bhapa recipe made of mustard and poppy seeds paste. The process of cooking involves steaming boiled eggs with mustard paste and a few other spices. Here’s how you can make the quintessential dim bhapa:
6 Haas er Dim aka Duck Egg 2 Tablespoon Yellow Mustard Seed 2 Tablespoon Black Mustard Seed 4 Tablespoon Coconut Paste 3 Tablespoon Plain Yoghurt 6 Green Chillies 1 Tablespoon Poppy Seed aka Posto 1 Teaspoon Turmeric Powder 1 Teaspoon Red Chilli Powder 1 Teaspoon Salt or to taste 3 Teaspoon Mustard Oil
Boil the Duck eggs and remove the skin once the eggs are done.
Make a paste of mustard seeds, poppy seeds, and green chillies.
In a tiffin box, add the paste, coconut paste, yoghurt, turmeric powder, chilli powder, salt and give it a mix.
Add the hard-boiled eggs to it and add mustard oil and green chillies and mix well. Close the tiffin box.
Place a stand inside the deep-bottom pan which has boiling water. Now place the container with the egg over the stand.
Cook in slow flame over 20 minutes. Serve hot with steamed rice.
