A filling and healthy breakfast option is oatmeal. Here are instructions on how to prepare your oatmeal bowl to boost flavour and nutrition without adding a lot of calories.
Steel-cut oats has a mouthwatering, creamy and chewy feel.
Making your own oats allows you to enjoy the flavours you desire while limiting the amount of added sugar in your breakfast.
The proportion for steel-cut oats is 3/4 to 1 cup of liquid for every 1/4 cup of oats. The proportion is 1 cup of liquid to 1/2 cup of quick-cooking or rolled oats.
Oats can be prepared with low-fat milk or plant-based milk in place of water for an added calcium boost and creamy flavour. Or, for an increase in flavor, try making it with apple cider instead.
On a Sunday, make a large batch of steel-cut oats in your crockpot and store it in the refrigerator. Simply scoop a serving into a microwave-safe dish each morning, add a tablespoon or two of water, and then heat in the microwave until hot.
