Although most oatmeal recipes celebrate the breakfast dish in a sweet format, savoury oatmeal is an underrated but equally tasty way to put a spin on breakfast without much effort.

½ cup rolled oats 3 teaspoons butter 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 teaspoon minced ginger 1 teaspoon soy sauce 1 cup water 1 vegetable stock cube 5-6 mushrooms, sliced 1 egg Salt and pepper, to taste

Heat the butter in a saucepan and sauté the ginger and garlic until fragrant.

Add the sliced mushrooms and cook until the mushrooms have shrunken slightly.

Pour in the water and crumble the stock cube before stirring to dissolve it completely.

Add the soy sauce and rolled oats to cook for 8-10 minutes, until the mixture thickens in consistency.

Fry the egg separately in another pan before transferring the oatmeal mixture to a bowl.

Top up with the egg and serve warm with a drizzle of chilli oil.
