Makar Sankranti Special Dishes From India

Makar Sankranti is celebrated in India to bid goodbye to the bone-chilly winters. It usually falls on January 14 and it is a day when the Sun transits or into the sun sign – Capricorn. Besides, it marks the epitome of food that warms the body.

Appalu

This sweet dish is from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It is made out of wheat flour, rice flour, and jaggery. The dough is flattened and deep-fried in oil.

Ghughute

A popular dish from Uttarakhand, this dish is served during Makar Sankranti. It is made out of wheat flour and jaggery mixed and made into various shapes.

Pheni

A Rajasthan delicacy is prepared by frying rolled flour dough in ghee. It is Makar Sankranti special dish which is garnished with dry fruits and served with sweet milk.

Gokul Pithe

: It is prepared in the house of Bengal to celebrate Poush-Parbon. It is made out of grated coconut and jaggery which is stuffed into small balls of flour dough.
